Panepistimiou 42, at the junction of the two corridors of a commercial arcade, a place seems to host a different experience of time. A bar stood as a millennium tree; since its creation in 1954 it has shared a lot of stories from a very close to a wide liquid surrounding. The proximity of the first courthouse of Athens giving it a fictional presence.

Στην οδό Πανεπιστημίου 42 , στη γωνιά μιας εμπορικής στοάς, ένας χώρος φαίνεται ότι φιλοξενεί μία διαφορετική εμπειρία του καιρου μας. Το πλαϊνό μπαρ στέκεται σαν δέντρο χιλιετίας. Από τότε που λειτούργησε, το 1954, μοιράστηκε πολλές ιστορίες με κοντινούς και πιο μακρινούς θαμώνες. Το απέναντι πρώτο δικαστικό μέγαρο της Αθήνας του δίνει έναν μυθιστορηματικό χαρακτήρα.

Nowadays, it’s still sharing many common moments with its neighbourhood, a lawyer, a photographer and residential complex. Like this old photographic shop transformed into a project space repainted and renamed Stoa42. This bar without name, just this geographical information ‘ΕΞΟΔΟΣ ΠΑΝΕΠΙΣΤΗΜΙΟΥ’ (Exit Panepistimiou) on its facade, definitely works as a knot, where things merge spatially and temporally.

Σήμερα, μοιράζεται ακόμη πολλές κοινές στιγμές με τη γειτονιά του, έναν δικηγόρο, έναν φωτογράφο και συγκροτήματα κατοικιών. Όπως αυτό το παλιό κατάστημα φωτογραφικών ειδών που μεταμορφώθηκε σε ένα project space χώρο προβολής, ξαναβάφτηκε και μετονομάστηκε σε Stoa 42. Aυτό το μπαρ, χωρίς όνομα, με μόνο τον γεωγραφικό του προσδιορισμό ως ‘ΕΞΟΔΟΣ ΠΑΝΕΠΙΣΤΗΜΙΟΥ’ στην πρόσοψή του, λειτουργεί ως κόμβος, όπου τα πράγματα συνδέονται χωρικά και χρονικά.

There, through a continuously working screen, we got the opportunity to approach Athens in this parallel way. Layered with many connected stories. From the collective memory of the past to the personal memories of the story-tellers of this place, through the blurring created by shared movies. Past, present, fiction loose their clarity there, and are experienced at the same level.

Εκεί, μέσω μιας οθόνης σε συνεχή λειτουργία, βρήκαμε την ευκαιρία να προσεγγίσουμε την Αθήνα με αυτόν τον παράλληλο τρόπο. Με πολλές αλληλοσυνδεομένες ιστορίες. Από τη συλλογική μνήμη του παρελθόντος ως τις προσωπικές αναμνήσεις των αφηγητών του χώρου, μέσω της αχλής που δημιουργούν οι κοινές κινηματογραφικές ταινίες. Το παρελθόν, το παρόν και ο μύθος χάνουν εκεί την καθαρότητά τους και όλα βιώνονται στο ίδιο επίπεδο.
